I Lived

I’ve been posting updates to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter... but in case you only follow me here, I wanted to share that I was finally discharged yesterday on my 24th day with my new heart.

And for reasons I’m not yet ready to share or write about, I’ve named her Jordan. (And no, I have no idea who my donor was or what his/her name was. I hope to learn that in the coming year. There are rules to be followed here out of consideration for the donor family.)

Today was the first day of the rest of my life.

This has been the most profound experience... and after all of those weeks spent staring at 4 sterile hospital walls, finding myself walking in my glorious woods with my incredible husband and my sweet dogs... all while a stranger’s heart beats in my chest and powers me along... It’s just absolutely overwhelming. I can’t seem to wrap my mind around it.

But I lived.
I’m here.
I’m so grateful.

And I’m going to take Jordan everywhere and show her everything and maybe one day I will understand it all.
